coaching situation

Agile Evolution is a central component of our coaching program. It is a management tool for anchoring agile values such as cooperative work, product quality, continuous improvement and reliable delivery in an organization over the long term. It provides a catalog of metrics and practices for managers and trainers in an agile environment.

Agility has come a long way. A niche topic for software developers has become a strategic direction with which companies can ensure their survival. Good practices, an agile way of thinking and agile leadership are the decisive prerequisites for a sustainable agile culture. Managers and coaches have a considerable influence on this corporate culture. How can they fulfil your role? Which change approach can they trust?

Agile Evolution:

  • A knowledge base of agile practices and capabilities: skills, performance and practices that help evaluate ratings and actions at different levels.
  • A maturity model for teams, leaders and the organisation with self-assessment as a learning and change method.
  • An iterative approach with a focus on the highest business impact.

Why Agile Evolution?

The business world has become VUCA: volatile, insecure, complex and ambiguous. In a VUCA world, the conditions for success and growth are changing. While efficiency has been a dominant KPI in the industrial world, the ability to question one's own business, adapt, learn and implement rapid change is the most important success factor today.
Change is no longer a one-time event, it is a constant evolution, a consequence of incremental and disruptive adaptations to new contexts. Organizations need new skills to compete internationally in this environment.
The introduction of Agile is not a normal change project, it requires a significant change in habits, practices, collaboration, product development and ultimately culture. This cannot be done in a single step. Usually, when you embark on this journey, only the first steps are visible, there is no complete plan or a finished roadmap. However, there are some experiences that can help to direct the efforts in the direction with a high probability of success.
  • Identify the desired results to evaluate an initial plan
  • Find the right drivers and ways of thinking that enable a sustainable change in the direction of Agile
  • Identify the actors and target groups for the change steps and actions
  • Start with the actions that provide quick feedback. Remove large obstacles and select the actions that initially have the most effect.

Readiness - decision for Agil

Calculate the benefits for your organization - we support you in identifying potential benefits, in developing the success criteria and the business case.
  • Understand Agile - Develop existing concepts of Agile, Lean and the learning organization to develop an initial plan.
  • Develop goals and success factors - Determine goals with your senior management, e.g. with an executive workshop
  • Readiness check for the organisation and for your teams - assessment of the status quo and the most valuable change steps
The prerequisites, chances of success and pitfalls are explored. The following results are typically obtained:
  • Hotspots in the structures and the organization. Which current processes and structures should be improved for an agile constellation?
  • Selection of the right methods for your purposes. We support you with a workshop or a training "Choose your Method". You will learn a lot about the strengths and limitations of the various methods and what environment you need to provide so that your teams have the best prerequisites for success.
  • Personal skills. Equip all participants in all roles with the necessary knowledge and skills to help them adopt a habit of continuous improvement and shared responsibility for results. We offer the right training for Scrum Master, Product Owner, Teams and Leaders.
  • Training and development plans for the participants. We recommend a consistent training and coaching program based on our portfolio.

Transition - developing the organization

A sustainable agile transition can only be driven from within the organization. We help you with the design and implementation; however, we cannot replace your commitment to an agile corporate culture. Therefore, the first working step of the Transition Change Agents and Sponsors has to be identified.
  • Determination of the scope, the concrete procedure and the tranistion pattern, i.e. how the target organization is set up.
  • Establishing a continuous improvement process. A transparent feedback and trust culture is a supporting pillar for successful agile transformation.
  • Develop agile leadership. Only management can change an organization. This means a change in their role and new, additional skills for managers, a new HR and new structures and behavioural patterns.
  • Scaling beyond frameworks. Agile starts in a team, it is based on personal understanding in small, self-organized, responsible teams. Agile on a large scale therefore holds great challenges in store. Scaling frameworks offer a starting point for the implementation, for a good implementation on a large scale target systems, decision structures and organizational learning have to be re-thought.
  • Excellence for teams. Ensure a stable set of agile practices and shared knowledge across all teams. Help the teams to achieve excellence in team and development techniques.  Typical success characteristics of this level are: Delivery of high-quality, functioning, tested features, improved customer satisfaction, a shorter cycle time from request to integration into production and a consistent level of productivity and quality.
The following typical results come out of this step:
  • Starting point and transition patterns are identified - which parts of the organization will start, which first projects will be tackled.
  • Structural changes have been initiated.
  • aglle leadership - the leadership image and roles for managers have been redefined.
  • Continual health checks for teams and adapted suggestions for the further development of team skills.

Agile Evolution - permanent sustainable development

Iteratively establish a set of rules, structures and values in your organization that support a sustainable acceptance of Agile - today, Change is not a one-time project, but a paradigm shift towards constant change.
We help you get started and moderate the change process with a focus on agile culture, optimization of "flow of value" and sustainable innovation.
Typical success characteristics of an agile company are:
  • an organization that is effective, resilient, adapts quickly to change and prospers in a volatile world.
  • a technology organization that works faster and delivers more productive value to the customer
  • a company that works better together and has more satisfied customers and employees.
